Privacy policy

Thank you for your interest in our wiki. Protecting the personal data of visitors to the wiki is very important to us. Therefore, we would like to inform you here about data protection at our university
This privacy policy is based on Privacy policy of the central websites of the TU Berlin and adapted in individual points to the specifics of the Wiki - among other things, the section on usage data collection for Google Search is obsolete.

Subject of data protection

Data protection deals with personal data. According to Article 4 No. 1 of the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, i.e. any information that can be used to identify you. This includes, for example, details such as name, private address, e-mail address or telephone number, but also usage data such as your IP address.

It goes without saying that Technische Universität Berlin observes the statutory provisions on data protection and other legal regulations and requirements.

We do everything to ensure that you can trust us with regard to your personal data. Thus, the transmission of personal and sensitive data is encrypted. In addition, our websites are protected by technical measures against damage or unauthorized access.

General data privacy notice

(1) When you access this wiki or download data from these pages, information about this is stored in a log file with the following content: Your IP address, the date and time of the page call, the page called up or the name of the file called up, the amount of data transferred, the „user agent string“ of your web browser, the website from which you called up the current page or file, and the status message as to whether the access or retrieval was successful. The non-anonymized log data is automatically deleted after 1 month and is not archived.

(2) This data is used exclusively for non-commercial purposes: it is only viewed manually if necessary and used for error analysis, optimization or investigation of cases of abuse or performance bottlenecks.

(3) We also use cookies to collect and store data. Cookies are small data packages that consist of text and are stored by your web browser when you call up a website. They do not cause any damage to your terminal device - cookies do not contain viruses nor do they give us the opportunity to spy on you. We use two types of cookies: temporary and permanent. Temporary cookies are automatically deleted when you close your web browser (session cookies). Permanent cookies, on the other hand, have a maximum lifetime - up to one day for us.

Cookies are used by us to enable visitors and editors to make optimal use of the websites. The cookies used are in no case used to track personal user actions or for behavioral analysis. They are only used where they are technically necessary or more useful than other techniques, for example, when recording the login status of users and editors or storing information such as „Show mobile variant of the website“. The use of the websites is predominantly possible without the use of cookies. However, for functions or pages that require a login, the use of cookies is necessary. You can set your web browser to delete cookies that have already been stored.

Scope of data collection and storage

For our handling of personal traffic data, please refer to the „General Data Protection Notice“ (above, regarding log data and cookies).

For the most part, the active communication of your personal data is not required for the use of our websites.

In order for TU Berlin to fulfill its service mandate, we require special personal data in individual cases. This applies in particular to answering individual e-mail inquiries, ordering special services or applications.

If you commission us to provide a service, we generally collect and store your personal data only to the extent necessary for the provision of the service.

In exceptional cases, e.g. in the context of event registrations, you will be asked whether your data may be stored for the purpose of providing information about similar events beyond the scope of pure event processing. In this case, you will not suffer any disadvantages as a result of a refusal.

You can revoke your consent once given and request the deletion of your data at any time and without giving reasons.

If you have registered for one of our newsletters with your e-mail address, we will use your e-mail address to keep you informed within the scope of the newsletter until you unsubscribe from the newsletter.

Place of storage and use of data for specific purposes

We collect, process and store your personal data exclusively within TUB (usually in the TUB computer center) only for the purpose for which you have provided it to us, thus observing the principle of purpose-related data use. Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties without your express consent, unless this is necessary for the provision of the service or the execution of the contract. The transfer to state institutions and authorities requesting information will also only take place within the framework of the legal obligations to provide information or if we are obliged to provide information by a court decision.

We also take internal university data protection very seriously. Our employees and any service providers we may commission are obligated by us to maintain confidentiality and to comply with the provisions of data protection law.

Right of information

You can obtain information about the data we have stored about you free of charge at any time without having to give a reason. For this purpose, please contact us at the address given in the imprint. We will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about our privacy policy.
